Here we have quite an interesting juxtaposition: Moonraker is the worst Bond movie ever made in my opinion, but it’s probably my favorite of the books by Ian Fleming (so far at least). How did that happen? Blame Star Wars. No really. For Your Eyes Only was supposed to be the next Bond movie after The Spy … More James Bond in Moonraker: Book vs. Movie
“’They want us dead,’ said Bond calmly. ‘So we have to stay alive.’” The film adaptation of Moonraker is legendary for being awful. I called it the worst Bond movie ever, so you can understand that I was very curious to see how the book would fare. Thankfully, aside from the title and the villain’s name … More Book Review: Moonraker, by Ian Fleming
The movie version of Live and Let Die was used to introduce a new actor, Roger Moore, playing 007, but on the page it was pretty much just another adventure. Unlike Casino Royale, there are many differences to be found between the source novel and the film adaptation. Both find 007 investigating Mr. Big, an African American crime … More James Bond in Live and Let Die: Book vs. Movie
“In my job … when I come up against a man like this one, I have another motto. It’s ‘live and let die.’” Now that we’ve been introduced to the world of James Bond, 007, Ian Fleming gets right to the point in the second Bond novel, Live and Let Die. The events of Casino Royale don’t … More Book Review: Live and Let Die, by Ian Fleming
Not all Bond movies are created equal. Some are better than others. There are iconic successes and legendary messes. Still, the Bond franchise has become the most enduring film series of all time. Audiences just can’t get enough of this British spy with debonair wit and a raging sex addiction, and they’ll follow him through … More Every James Bond Movie Listed and Ranked
“History is moving pretty quickly these days and the heroes and villains keep on changing parts.” Although it was the 21st movie in the series of Bond films, Casino Royale was the very first Bond novel written by Ian Fleming. Appropriately enough, its film adaptation was essentially a reboot of the Bond series with Daniel … More Book Review: Casino Royale, by Ian Fleming
Casino Royale was the first book in Ian Fleming’s James Bond series, but it was the 21st movie in the film series. In both cases, it serves as a sort of introduction to the suave British agent with the cold eyes. Unlike many adaptations of Fleming’s novels, the plot is remarkably consistent with what you … More James Bond in Casino Royale: Book vs. Movie
“…things get broken, and sometimes they get repaired, and in most cases, you realize that no matter what gets damaged, life rearranges itself to compensate for your loss, sometimes wonderfully.” A Little Life is the story of four friends who meet in college. Ostensibly, it follows their friendship throughout the decades that follow, but the … More Book Review: A Little Life, by Hanya Yanagihara
“Nothing happens in my life. Nothing has to happen, she said, for it to be life.” By all rights, All My Puny Sorrows should be a bleak, miserable read. Thanks to Toews, it isn’t. This book made me laugh out loud many times. That hasn’t happened in a great long while–I can’t even remember the last … More Book Review: All My Puny Sorrows, by Miriam Toews
“All we can do is play our parts and keep each other company.” Something funny occasionally happens when you finish a book and let some time pass before you write a review of it. As I was reading Bill Clegg’s Did You Ever Have a Family I loved it. The only thing that bothered me was … More Book Review: Did You Ever Have a Family, by Bill Clegg
